Hi, I'm Alex and I’m about a month into my first full-time role as a Paid Media Executive here at 43 Clicks North. As I was finishing my marketing degree, I wasn’t sure if I had enough experience to step straight into a paid media agency role, but I knew it was worth a shot. So I sent a speculative application to 43 around May. I’d been following their socials for a while and already thought it looked like a place I’d like to work in the future. Steve gave me a call, but at the time, there wasn’t a suitable role available.
Fast forward to August, just as I was about to graduate, Steve dropped me a message on LinkedIn asking if I was still looking for a role in marketing (Spoiler: I was). I then had an initial video call with Steve and a second interview with Tom and Ryan who all made me feel comfortable straight away. Then came the wait. I found myself checking my emails too often so I tried to keep myself busy by playing golf, going out with friends and enjoying my graduation day. Fortunately, it wasn’t long after the call came through with the good news. I won't lie, I was absolutely buzzing so the celebrations carried on!
There was a month between the offer and starting so I used the time by watching YouTube tutorials, reading blogs and working through my Google Ads certifications so I was as prepared as possible when I started.
From day one, everyone was friendly and welcoming. The team even took me out for lunch which was a really nice way to get to know everyone from the off and calm my first-day nerves. The first day was jam-packed with meeting new people, taking in so much information and jotting notes down… and even went to a Coldplay concert in the evening. Not a bad way to round off day one.
I was shown around the office, including the fancy tap that I nodded along to like I knew how it worked (I didn’t). During my first week, I was introduced to all the different teams at 43 which gave me a proper sense of how PPC, SEO, Creative and Client Management all connect and where my role fits in with everything. It was also clear from the start how talented everyone is here and being able to learn from them was one of the main reasons I wanted to join an agency like 43 in the first place.
In just a few weeks, I’ve gotten stuck into keyword research, written ad copy and learnt my way around Google Ads. What’s really helped is that whenever I’ve had questions, there’s always been support. Everyone is willing to help, answer questions and share their knowledge which has made the jump from uni to full-time marketer so much smoother.
It’s only been a month, but I already feel like I’ve settled in. There is still so much more for me to learn but I couldn’t have asked for a better place to start my career in marketing. Although I’ve just started, I can already see the opportunities to grow and develop here and I’m excited to see where I’ll be in a few months’ time, a year from now and further down the line.
